Sunday, June 21st, will be our Opening Sunday Service of the 2026 Season!
As you may recall, we announced the sudden passing of Barbara Ann Cosby on June 3, 2025. Barbara had served faithfully as our Chapel Organist and Choir Director for over 25 years.
The Chapel Board of Trustees are happy to report that we have found a Worship Music Director, Sandie Heckel, to fill the void created by Barbara's passing.
Sandie is a lifelong music educator who has taught K-8 Music, general and instrumental, with the District School Board of Niagara and York Region District School Board. Throughout her career she has also served as homeroom teacher, teacher-librarian, instructional coach, as well as music resource teacher.
Her musical training began with piano lessons at the age of five with Mrs. Marion Morningstar in Ridgeway and progressed to study at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto.
She then specialized in Music to receive an Honours Bachelor of Fine Arts from York University, followed by a Bachelor of Education from Ottawa University, and is an Ontario Certified Teacher. Later in her teaching career, when her own children were pursuing university, Sandie returned to academic study and earned a Master of Music Education degree from Western University.
She is currently a sessional instructor of Music Education in Brock University’s Faculty of Education Teacher Education Program where she pursues her interests in guiding beginning generalist teachers through informal/personalized music learning experiences while prioritizing their musical self-efficacy.
Sandie has a passion for the arts, and a particular interest in dance, having played the piano for various dance schools where she learned about music-movement connections and honed her accompaniment skills as a young player. Having taken a long break from full-time piano playing or accompanying, Sandie welcomes the challenge of returning to more frequent piano playing in her new role as music director.
Sandie lives in Fort Erie with her husband of over 40 years and enjoys bike rides on the Friendship Trail and always looks forward to visits with their four adult daughters who now live in various parts of Canada and the US.
With much appreciation:
